Electrical Measuring Instruments and Measurements

Electrical Measuring Instruments and Measurements PDF Author: S.C. Bhargava
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0415621461
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 700

Book Description
This book, written for the benefit of engineering students and practicing engineers alike, is the culmination of the author's four decades of experience related to the subject of electrical measurements, comprising nearly 30 years of experimental research and more than 15 years of teaching at several engineering institutions. The unique feature of this book, apart from covering the syllabi of various universities, is the style of presentation of all important aspects and features of electrical measurements, with neatly and clearly drawn figures, diagrams and colour and b/w photos that illustrate details of instruments among other things, making the text easy to follow and comprehend. Enhancing the chapters are interspersed explanatory comments and, where necessary, footnotes to help better understanding of the chapter contents. Also, each chapter begins with a "recall" to link the subject matter with the related science or phenomenon and fundamental background. The first few chapters of the book comprise "Units, Dimensions and Standards"; "Electricity, Magnetism and Electromagnetism" and "Network Analysis". These topics form the basics of electrical measurements and provide a better understanding of the main topics discussed in later chapters. The last two chapters represent valuable assets of the book, and relate to (a) "Magnetic Measurements", describing many unique features not easily available elsewhere, a good study of which is essential for the design and development of most electric equipment – from motors to transformers and alternators, and (b) "Measurement of Non-electrical Quantities", dealing extensively with the measuring techniques of a number of variables that constitute an important requirement of engineering measurement practices. The book is supplemented by ten appendices covering various aspects dealing with the art and science of electrical measurement and of relevance to some of the topics in main chapters. Other useful features of the book include an elaborate chapter-by-chapter list of symbols, worked examples, exercises and quiz questions at the end of each chapter, and extensive authors' and subject index. This book will be of interest to all students taking courses in electrical measurements as a part of a B.Tech. in electrical engineering. Professionals in the field of electrical engineering will also find the book of use.

Navigation of Autonomous Marine Robots

Navigation of Autonomous Marine Robots PDF Author: Thomas Glotzbach
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3658301090
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 366

Book Description
Thomas Glotzbach spotlights that navigation within marine robotics can benefit from cooperative teams in a way that justifies the increased effort to operate several vehicles at once. He features discussions of different scenarios, modeling of systems, and estimation algorithms for comparable situations. The chapter on the used methodologies may allow a reader with only basic knowledge in control theory to obtain deeper insight in advanced concepts such as observability and state estimation, even without any background in marine robotics.

Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality: Applications of Virtual and Augmented Reality

Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality: Applications of Virtual and Augmented Reality PDF Author: Randall Shumaker
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319074644
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 497

Book Description
The two-volume set LNCS 8525-8526 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality, VAMR 2014, held as part of the 16th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCI 2014, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, in June 2014, jointly with 13 other thematically similar conferences. The total of 1476 papers and 220 posters presented at the HCII 2014 conferences were carefully reviewed and selected from 4766 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers thoroughly cover the entire field of human-computer interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The total of 82 contributions included in the VAMR proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this two-volume set. The 43 papers included in this volume are organized in the following topical sections: VAMR in education and cultural heritage; games and entertainment; medical, health and rehabilitation applications; industrial, safety and military applications.

Modeling, Design, and Simulation of Systems with Uncertainties

Modeling, Design, and Simulation of Systems with Uncertainties PDF Author: Andreas Rauh
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642159567
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
To describe the true behavior of most real-world systems with sufficient accuracy, engineers have to overcome difficulties arising from their lack of knowledge about certain parts of a process or from the impossibility of characterizing it with absolute certainty. Depending on the application at hand, uncertainties in modeling and measurements can be represented in different ways. For example, bounded uncertainties can be described by intervals, affine forms or general polynomial enclosures such as Taylor models, whereas stochastic uncertainties can be characterized in the form of a distribution described, for example, by the mean value, the standard deviation and higher-order moments. The goal of this Special Volume on Modeling, Design, and Simulation of Systems with Uncertainties is to cover modern methods for dealing with the challenges presented by imprecise or unavailable information. All contributions tackle the topic from the point of view of control, state and parameter estimation, optimization and simulation. Thematically, this volume can be divided into two parts. In the first we present works highlighting the theoretic background and current research on algorithmic approaches in the field of uncertainty handling, together with their reliable software implementation. The second part is concerned with real-life application scenarios from various areas including but not limited to mechatronics, robotics, and biomedical engineering.

Parametric Resonance in Dynamical Systems

Parametric Resonance in Dynamical Systems PDF Author: Thor Fossen
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media

Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 329

Book Description
Parametric Resonance in Dynamical Systems discusses the phenomenon of parametric resonance and its occurrence in mechanical systems, vehicles, motorcycles, aircraft and marine craft, along micro-electro-mechanical systems. The contributors provides an introduction to the root causes of this phenomenon and its mathematical equivalent, the Mathieu-Hill equation. Also included is a discussion of how parametric resonance occurs on ships and offshore systems, and its frequency in mechanical and electrical systems. This volume is ideal for researchers and mechanical engineers working in application fields such as MEMS, maritime, aircraft and ground vehicle engineering.

Sun Above the Horizon

Sun Above the Horizon PDF Author: Peter F. Varadi
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 113802726X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
The meteoric rise of the photovoltaic (PV) industry is an incredible story. In 2013, Google’s investments in PV systems totaled about half a billion dollars and Warren Buffet, one of the famous investors, invested $2.5 billion in the world’s largest PV system in California. These gigantic investments by major financial players were made only 40 years after the first two terrestrial PV companies, Solarex and Solar Power Corporation, were formed in the USA. Back in 1973, the two companies employed 20 people and produced only 500 watts of PV power. Now, just 40 years later, over a million people work in the PV industry. The worldwide capacity of operating PV electric generators equals the capacity of about 25 nuclear power plants. The PV industry is growing at an annual rate of 30 percent, equivalent to about five new nuclear power plants per year. Today, solar electricity is a significant supplier of electricity needs, to the extent that PV is forcing the restructuring of 100-year-old electric power utilities. This book describes how this happened and what lies ahead for PV power generation.
