EX est un grand atout pour la France : depuis plus de deux siècles, la qualité de ses élèves, de son corps professoral, sa notoriété au plan national sont incontestables. Mais dans un monde de l’enseignement supérieur mondialisé, l’Ecole apparaît aujourd’hui bousculée : trop limitée en taille, trop peu visible à l’international, dotée de ressources financières restreintes... Diversification de l’offre d’enseignement, amélioration du pilotage de la recherche, refondation du lien entre IX et l’Etat, renforcement des adhérences avec la Défense, amélioration de la diversité sociale, clarification de la politique internationale, plan de financement repensé l’ensemble des thématiques-clés de l’Ecole polytechnique fait l’objet d’une analyse stratégique, qui s’accompagne de recommandations précises. L’étude souligne également combien l’avenir de l’Ecole est désormais lié au plateau de Saclay. Il préconise de regrouper une dizaine de grandes écoles scientifiques, dont l’X, pour constituer une nouvelle «Ecole polytechnique de Paris», au sein de l’Université Paris-Saclay. Cette initiative permettrait de répondre à l’objectif de croissance de l’X, tout en gardant l’exigence de qualité. Dans un contexte mondialisé, où les enjeux scientifiques et techniques n’ont jamais été aussi forts, la mise en oeuvre de ce nouveau plan stratégique doit permettre à l’X de conserver sa singularité qui est aussi sa force : l’excellence au service de la nation.

His huge collection of French Revolutionary publications is one of the greatest libraries of its kind to be formed during the period of the Revolution. Maclure bestowed the collection on the Philadelphia Academy of the Natural Sciences in 1821, and the Academy in turn gave the collection to the Historical Society of Philadelphia, In 1949 it was acquired by the University of Pennsylvania.

Drugs are part of every society, consumed for ritual or religious purposes, for pleasure, to enhance athletic performance, or as a means to relieve pain. Throughout the twentieth century, however, an arbitrary and shifting distinction was made between legal drugs that were prescribed and administered by the medical profession, and illegal drugs that were subject to state control and suppression. Illegal in Canada since 1923, marijuana is the most controversial of illegal drugs. Because it lacks the same addictive and harmful qualities of other illegal substances, such as heroin and cocaine, marijuana's negative social impact is questionable. In the 1960s interest groups – including university student associations, certain physicians, and others – began demanding changes to the Narcotics Control Act, which governed the legal status of drugs, to decriminalize or legalize the possession of marijuana. In Not This Time, Marcel Martel explores recreational use of marijuana in the 1960s and its emergence as a topic of social debate. He demonstrates how the media, interest groups, state institutions, bureaucrats and politicians influenced the development and implementation of public policy on drugs. Martel illustrates how two loose coalitions both made up of interest groups, addiction research organizations and bureaucrats – one supporting the existing drug legislation, and the other favoring liberalization of the Narcotics Control Act – dominated the debate over the legalization of marijuana, and how those favoring liberalized drug laws, while influential, had difficulty presenting a unified front and problems justifying their cause while the health benefits of marijuana use were still in question.
