Book Description
The SIAM Workshop on Combinatorial Scientific Computing 2020 (CSC20) was held February 11–13, 2020, in Seattle, Washington, USA. The CSC workshop series provides a top-tier forum for presenting original research on the design, implementation, application, and evaluation of combinatorial algorithms and data structures that arise from problems in computational science, computational engineering, and data science. Research in CSC involves identifying a scientific computing problem arising in a relevant application area, representing this problem using a combinatorial or graph model, describing the corresponding graph problem, finding an algorithmic approach to its solution, and carrying out a theoretical and/or experimental analysis of the approach.

2018 Proceedings of the Eighth SIAM Workshop on Combinatorial Scientific Computing PDF Author: Fredrik Manne
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781611975215
Category : Combinatorial analysis
Languages : en
Pages : 108

Book Description
The papers in this volume were presented at CSC18, the 8th SIAM Workshop on Combinatorial Scientific Computing, held June 6-8, 2018 in Bergen, Norway. The CSC workshop series provides a forum for researchers from academia and industry interested in the interaction of combinatorial (discrete) mathematics and algorithms with computational science and engineering. CSC18 follows seven successful CSC workshops held roughly biennially, in February 2004, June 2005, February 2007, October 2009, May 2011, July 2014, and October 2016.

Combinatorial Scientific Computing

Combinatorial Scientific Computing PDF Author: Uwe Naumann
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1439827354
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 602

Book Description
Combinatorial Scientific Computing explores the latest research on creating algorithms and software tools to solve key combinatorial problems on large-scale high-performance computing architectures. It includes contributions from international researchers who are pioneers in designing software and applications for high-performance computing systems. The book offers a state-of-the-art overview of the latest research, tool development, and applications. It focuses on load balancing and parallelization on high-performance computers, large-scale optimization, algorithmic differentiation of numerical simulation code, sparse matrix software tools, and combinatorial challenges and applications in large-scale social networks. The authors unify these seemingly disparate areas through a common set of abstractions and algorithms based on combinatorics, graphs, and hypergraphs. Combinatorial algorithms have long played a crucial enabling role in scientific and engineering computations and their importance continues to grow with the demands of new applications and advanced architectures. By addressing current challenges in the field, this volume sets the stage for the accelerated development and deployment of fundamental enabling technologies in high-performance scientific computing.

Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing

Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing PDF Author: Michael A. Heroux
Publisher: SIAM
ISBN: 9780898718133
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 421

Book Description
Parallel processing has been an enabling technology in scientific computing for more than 20 years. This book is the first in-depth discussion of parallel computing in 10 years; it reflects the mix of topics that mathematicians, computer scientists, and computational scientists focus on to make parallel processing effective for scientific problems. Presently, the impact of parallel processing on scientific computing varies greatly across disciplines, but it plays a vital role in most problem domains and is absolutely essential in many of them. Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing is divided into four parts: The first concerns performance modeling, analysis, and optimization; the second focuses on parallel algorithms and software for an array of problems common to many modeling and simulation applications; the third emphasizes tools and environments that can ease and enhance the process of application development; and the fourth provides a sampling of applications that require parallel computing for scaling to solve larger and realistic models that can advance science and engineering.

Combinatorial Algorithms to Enable Computational Science and Engineering

Book Description
This final progress report summarizes the work accomplished at the Combinatorial Scientific Computing and Petascale Simulations Institute. We developed Zoltan, a parallel mesh partitioning library that made use of accurate hypergraph models to provide load balancing in mesh-based computations. We developed several graph coloring algorithms for computing Jacobian and Hessian matrices and organized them into a software package called ColPack. We developed parallel algorithms for graph coloring and graph matching problems, and also designed multi-scale graph algorithms. Three PhD students graduated, six more are continuing their PhD studies, and four postdoctoral scholars were advised. Six of these students and Fellows have joined DOE Labs (Sandia, Berkeley), as staff scientists or as postdoctoral scientists. We also organized the SIAM Workshop on Combinatorial Scientific Computing (CSC) in 2007, 2009, and 2011 to continue to foster the CSC community.
