Active Networks

Active Networks PDF Author: Naoki Wakamiya
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540247157
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 319

Book Description
This volume of the LNCS series contains the proceedings of the 5th Internat- nal Working Conference on Active Networks (IWAN 2003) held in the ancient cultural city of Kyoto, Japan. This year we received 73 submissions. The increasing number indicates that Active Networks continues to be an attractive ?eld of research. Through - reful reviewing and discussion, our program committee decided to fully accept 21 papers. Three papers were conditionally accepted, and were included after shepherding by members of the technical program committee. This volume thus includes these 24 papers which were presented at IWAN 2003. Additional papers were presented in a poster session at the conference. The best paper award went to Kenneth L. Calvert, James N. Gri?oen, - jati Imam, and Jiangbo Li (University of Kentucky) for “Challenges in Imp- menting an ESP Service,” which begins these proceedings and which began the papers in the High Performance & Network Processors session. Papers in these proceedings are organized into seven sessions: High-Level Active Network - plications, Low-Level Active Network Applications, Self-Organization of Active Services, Management in Active Networks, Experiences with Service Engin- ring for Active Networks, and Selected Topics in Active Networks, ranging from risk management to context-aware handover and peer-to-peer communications.

Network Processors

Network Processors PDF Author: Ran Giladi
Publisher: Morgan Kaufmann
ISBN: 0080919596
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 737

Book Description
Network processors are the basic building blocks of today's high-speed, high-demand, quality-oriented communication networks. Designing and implementing network processors requires a new programming paradigm and an in-depth understanding of network processing requirements. This book leads the reader through the requirements and the underlying theory of networks, network processing, and network processors. It covers implementation of network processors and intergrates EZchip Microcode Development Environment so that you can gain hands-on experience in writing high-speed networking applications. By the end of the book, the reader will be able to write and test applications on a simulated network processor. Comprehensive, theoretical, and pracitical coverage of networks and high-speed networking applications Descirbes contemporary core, metro, and access networks and their processing algorithms Covers network processor architectures and programming models, enabling readers to assess the optimal network processor typer and configuration for their application Free download from http://www.cse.bgu.ac.il/npbook includes microcode development tools that provide hands-on experience with programming a network processor

Book Description
A unique overview of network security issues, solutions, and methodologies at an architectural and research level Network Security provides the latest research and addresses likely future developments in network security protocols, architectures, policy, and implementations. It covers a wide range of topics dealing with network security, including secure routing, designing firewalls, mobile agent security, Bluetooth security, wireless sensor networks, securing digital content, and much more. Leading authorities in the field provide reliable information on the current state of security protocols, architectures, implementations, and policies. Contributors analyze research activities, proposals, trends, and state-of-the-art aspects of security and provide expert insights into the future of the industry. Complete with strategies for implementing security mechanisms and techniques, Network Security features: * State-of-the-art technologies not covered in other books, such as Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and countermeasures * Problems and solutions for a wide range of network technologies, from fixed point to mobile * Methodologies for real-time and non-real-time applications and protocols

Building Sensor Networks

Building Sensor Networks PDF Author: Ioanis Nikolaidis
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351832026
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
For all the interest that wireless sensor networks have created over the past decade, there are few examples to show that they are truly delivering on this promise and anticipation. What is missing? Deviating from the usual focus on routing and energy efficiency, Building Sensor Networks: From Design to Applications attempts to stitch together the path from conceptual development of applications, on one end, to actual complete applications at the other. With this change in perspective, the book examines important facets of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) that are not often discussed in the literature. From Design Practices to the Networking Protocols that Glue Applications Together Organized into three sections, the book presents insights from international experts representing both industry and academia. The first section, on design practices, explores alternative ways to approach the tasks of developing a suitable WSN solution to an application and assisting that development in a manner that is not necessarily tied to a particular application. The second section, on networking protocols, illustrates the impact of the intermediaries—the "glue" of putting applications together. Chapters look at ways to address traffic, delays in network clustering, and the coexistence of a WSN with other systems on a frequency band. The final section of the book delves into experiences with applications in chemical sensing, defense, global trade and security, and ecosystem monitoring. Although these applications may fail the purist definition of an ideal WSN, they offer valuable lessons for the future development and deployment of WSNs. Challenge Your Thinking about Designing WSN Applications Emphasizing the need to build applications, the contributors present examples of what applications of WSNs could look like and identify the constraints. Throughout, the book challenges and illuminates your thinking about how to tame the complexity of designing a WSN application. It is essential reading for anyone interested in future wireless technologies.
