Analysis of Engineering Cycles

Analysis of Engineering Cycles PDF Author: R. W. Haywood
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0080984134
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 371

Book Description
Extensively revised, updated and expanded, the fourth edition of this popular text provides a rigorous analytical treatment of modern energy conversion plant. Notable for both its theoretical and practical treatment of conventional and nuclear power plant, and its studies of refrigerating and gas-liquefaction plant. This fourth edition now includes material on topics of increasing concern in the fields of energy 'saving' and reduction of environmental pollution. This increased coverage deals specifically with the following areas: CHP (cogeneration) plant, studies of both gas and coal burning plant designed to reduce toxic emissions, and the study of PWR plant in the nuclear industry, which has been extended to cover conceptual designs aimed at greater inherent safety. With over 20 new sections plus new appendices and more problems this text not only retains its value but also enhances its usefulness to the reader, covering areas of current interest and importance.

Forsthoffer's Component Condition Monitoring

Forsthoffer's Component Condition Monitoring PDF Author: Michael Forsthoffer
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 0128097728
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 206

Book Description
Forsthoffer's Component Conditioning Monitoring Handbook is dedicated to the condition monitoring of all rotating equipment. It describes the Forsthoffer Associates method of Component Condition Monitoring (CCM) and gives the reader detailed instructions on what to monitor for each component type. The author's easy and approachable style makes this a very practical reference for any level of technical background. This represents the latest addition to a set that includes volumes on 1. Fundamentals of Rotating Equipment; 2. Pumps; 3. Compressors; 4. Auxiliary Systems; 5. Reliability Optimization through Component Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis'. - Contains separate chapters that address each of the 5 major components of all rotating machinery - Covers what parameters must be monitored when action is required to prevent unplanned shutdown - Describes how to use specific spreadsheets for condition monitoring tasks that can be downloaded from a companion website

Advanced Gas Turbine Cycles

Advanced Gas Turbine Cycles PDF Author: J.H. Horlock
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080545564
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 225

Book Description
Primarily this book describes the thermodynamics of gas turbine cycles. The search for high gas turbine efficiency has produced many variations on the simple "open circuit" plant, involving the use of heat exchangers, reheating and intercooling, water and steam injection, cogeneration and combined cycle plants. These are described fully in the text. A review of recent proposals for a number of novel gas turbine cycles is also included. In the past few years work has been directed towards developing gas turbines which produce less carbon dioxide, or plants from which the CO2 can be disposed of; the implications of a carbon tax on electricity pricing are considered. In presenting this wide survey of gas turbine cycles for power generation the author calls on both his academic experience (at Cambridge and Liverpool Universities, the Gas Turbine Laboratory at MIT and Penn State University) and his industrial work (primarily with Rolls Royce, plc.) The book will be essential reading for final year and masters students in mechanical engineering, and for practising engineers.

Gas Turbine Powerhouse

Gas Turbine Powerhouse PDF Author: Dietrich Eckardt
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3486769685
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 509

Book Description
This book tells the story of the power generation gas turbine from the perspective of one of the leading companies in the field over a period of nearly 100 years, written by an engineer. Especially in times of imminent global economic crises it appears to be worthwhile to reflect on real economic values based on engineering ingenuity and enduring management of technological leadership. Though the book is primarily designed as a technical history of the BBC/ABB/Alstom power generation gas turbines, its scope is sufficiently broad to cover general development trends, including parallel competitor activities. A special benefit is the historical breakdown to the gas turbine component level, so that the book actually outlines the development of axial compressors from early beginnings, the progress in combustion technology towards extraordinary low emission values and that of axial turbines with special emphasis on early turbine cooling innovations. The sheer length of certain engineering developments over several decades allows interesting historic observations and deductions on inherent business mechanisms, the effects of technology preparations and organisational consequences. A look into the mirror of the past provides revelations on the impact of far-reaching business decisions.
