The Canada-Ontario-Industry Rockburst project was initiated in 1984 because of the re-emergence of a serious rockbursting problem in some of Ontario's mines. This report reviews the accomplishments realized during the first 5 years of the project, from 1984-89. The report describes the problem of seismicity in Ontario mines, seismic monitoring systems, scaling relationships, and the work conducted at the mines at Elliot Lake, Kirkland Lake, Red Lake, and Sudbury by each company involved. A list of publications and the personnel involved in the project are also included.
