Book Description
Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, 1987, Vol. 102 It is my personal belief that The Free Will Baptist paper and the Press have played a major role in the growth and development of our various State Convention ministries and our entire denomination. Begun originally for the purpose of publishing a periodical for our denomination, the Press, through its bookstores, job printing, Sunday School lessons and other program material, does much more than publish a paper. Again, it is my conviction that The Free Will Baptist is a vital part of the ministry of the Original Free Will Baptists of North Carolina. Much promotion, information and education takes place through its printed pages. It is a primary means of communication among all of our people. Book Description
Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, 1976, Vol. 91 Jesus heals according to His will and what is best for His children. Everybody who is lame, blind, or sick will not be healed; most will bear their suffering until they die. Some say, I prayed but God did not heal me, yet He healed another. What is wrong with God? Nothing is wrong with God, but much could be wrong with us. Jesus does not want to explain why He doesn't heal someone because when He does it means that our faith is void. He wants us to trust in Him whatever the outcome may be. If Jesus had to explain why He did not do such and such we would never learn to trust Him. Christians are unwise when they complain about any act of Jesus; it is much better to believe what He is doing is best for us. We should read Romans everyday and say Thank you, Lord; I do believe. When illness lingers and death comes, as it will to all if Jesus tarries, let us go to meet Him in faith. If healing comes and death is delayed, let us find much time to praise Him and be faithful in serving Him as an expression of our gratitude - The Bible Teacher (f. W. B.) Book Description
Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, Vol. 131: March, 2013 In 1957 I was asked to join the faculty at Mount Olive Junior College to teach the courses in religion and serve as campus minister. Our third child, another daughter, was born in March 1958. Then in the summer of that year I was asked to serve as academic dean in addition to the duties I had already assumed and I served in all of those positions for the next four years. In one of those years I served also as vice president of the College while the president was on leave for further studies in higher education at Florida State University. Incidentally, I was elected in 1957 to serve as secretary of the North Carolina Convention of Churches and continued to serve in that capacity until September 1962. Those were challenging years as the College took the necessary steps to be accredited by the North Carolina College Conference in 1958 and then the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1960. It was during that period that the controversy with the National Association of Free Will Baptists heated up, resulting finally in the separation of the Convention from the national body in March 1962, of which it had been a constituent member since 1935. Book Description
Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, 1991, Vol. 106 Individuals who are interested in receiving additional informa tion are asked to contact Dr. K. David Hines at: Mount Olive Col lege, Mount Olive, NC 28365; (919) 658-2502. Mount Olive College is the ex tended arm of Original Free Will Baptists in Christian higher education. There are more than colleges and universities in the United States, but Mount Olive is the only one chartered by our Convention and governed by a Board of Trustees whom we elect. Having recently made, at the request of the Convention, the transition from a two-year to a four-year college, Mount Olive is now in a more advantaged posi tion to meet the educational needs of Original Free Will Baptists. In order to provide a special medium of input from its sponsoring body, a study commission is scheduled to meet February 9, 1991, on the College campus. The purpose of this commission will be to identify the educational needs of Free Will Baptist churches, ministers, lay persons, and denominational ministries which can be set by services of Mount Olive College.
