Gone Writing

Gone Writing PDF Author: Peter Moore
Publisher: U of Minnesota Press
ISBN: 1452904049
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 95

Book Description
Humorous poetry from the television program hosted by a beloved Minnesota news anchor. In the 1950s, Dave Moore, a young actor born and raised in Minneapolis, accepted a newscaster position with the local CBS affiliate, WCCO-TV-a job Walter Cronkite turned down. For the next three decades, until his death in 1998, he delivered the evening news with integrity, conviction, humor, and flair, making him a fixture in Minnesota living rooms. At the end of his weekly news-in-review program, Moore on Sunday (or, as he liked to call it, “Moron Sunday”), Moore often signed off by reciting a poem. These poems, composed by Moore’s son Peter and collected here for the first time, offer a fresh and funny take on the common and not-so-common stuff of our everyday lives. Reminiscent of Ogden Nash and Tom Lehrer, with a dash of Dr. Seuss, Peter Moore’s verse captures the essence of his father’s wit, common sense, honesty, and warmth.

Geography

Geography PDF Author: Ralph Lemon
Publisher: Wesleyan University Press
ISBN: 9780819564436
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 220

Book Description
"Geography, a tapestry of journal entries, choreographic scores, drawings, and photographs, leads us through the creation of an evening-long dance, "Geography," a collaboration about being American, African, brown, black, blue black, male, and artist. This dance piece was a major departure for Ralph Lemon. In it everything is at stake - his identity, his politics, his art, his very way of moving. In order to create it, he traveled to Africa in search of dancers and a new relationship to the stage." "The intimate, keenly observed passages in this artist's journal give us extraordinary insights on the process of dance-making - from the discovery of specific movements to the sometimes uneasy relationships between the dancers. At every juncture the collaboration posed difficult questions about representing African dance and culture within the context of modern America's post-slave heritage. The book beautifully documents Lemon's ability to negotiate different dance traditions without either erasing or cementing them."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Description
Trade has played a critical role in global poverty reduction. In harnessing the potential of trade, some of the most successful countries have developed strong trade relationships with their neighbors. However, many South Asian countries have trade regimes that often offset the positive impact of geography and proximity. This report documents systematically the gaps between current and potential trade in South Asia and addresses important specific barriers that have held trade back. These barriers include tariffs and paratariffs, real and perceived nontariff barriers, connectivity costs, and the broader trust deficit. This policy-focused report unpacks these critical barriers to effective trade integration in South Asia through four in-depth studies that produce new, detailed, on-the-ground knowledge. Three of the studies are based on extensive stakeholder consultations. Two also rely on tailored surveys. The fourth study, on tariffs, benefits from new data on paratariffs. The report also marshals new evidence showing how trading regimes in South Asia discriminate against each other. Given the South Asian context, incremental, yet concrete steps aimed at tapping the potential of deeper integration are appropriate. The report has been drafted in this spirit. It offers precise, actionable policy recommendations that could help achieve measurable progress in key areas of trade and integration that would be to the advantage of all countries in the region.
